Hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. She uses this time to tell about the books she receives each week either to review, from the library, or from a purchase. Kristi is kind enough to let us all in on her fun and here is my little piece of that!

    1. So far I've only read the first two books in the series. I haven't read the final book yet. I did love the second more than the first, I think. ;)

    1. I KNOW. Rick Riordan writes totally writes for ME as well as middle-grade kids everywhere. The Percy series is one of my favorites but I haven't read the other series yet. So I'm STOKED.

  4. ASHELEY. First of all, your bookish friends are STELLAR. This is a great mailbox! Second of all, and most importantly, I can't wait for you to read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It's so wonderful, and I KNOW you will love it. Junior is THE BOMB.
And, obviously, The Red Pyramid is so fun because Rick Riordan only KNOWS fun, and Torrent was good, too. It occasionally gets a little religious (I'm pretty sure those books are Christian Fiction), but not too much at all. I don't know your feelings about those things, but the historical fiction parts are AWESOME, and the romance is good, too!

    1. I may have gotten excited a bit when I saw the Sherman Alexie sitting in that box, all nice and pretty. I've heard great things and I'm thinking there are illustrations in that one, no?

Rick Riordan. I die. Fist pumps everywhere, of course.

Interesting what you say about Torrent - I didn't realize that those books were possibly Christian Fiction...I love reading books with religious undertones, so I think you may have moved this series up on my TBR. It was already there, but throw in a bit of religion and I will surely want to read it and see how it is done/handled. I always love that in a book because it is always different and always discussable. And, um, I like romance too! ;)

  8. Oh goodness, this week you've got one of those massive stacks of awesome that's so overwhelming I don't even know where to start. I really liked both Under the Never Sky and Part-Time Indian, Torment was my least favorite of the Fallen series, but whatever. I really want you to read Tyger Tyger because I think it looks awesome, but haven't seen any reviews! I really want to read Iron Witch too. I hope you enjoy...this should keep you busy for a good long while!

    1. Under the Never Sky is an AWESOME book - I was so squeally to see that one in the box, and signed! WOW what an awesome friend! I've always heard fantastic things about Part-Time Indian and I'm excited to be able to put it on my shelf and read it soon. I've heard mixed things about the Fallen series but I still am intrigued by it. And OH I WANT TO READ TYGER TYGER too because hello! the description looks fun and I never really heard that much around about it either. The cover of Iron Witch is so pretty I could just stare at it. I was also really excited about Vaclav and Lena, can't wait to dive into that one.

  9. Legit what Amy said. JUNIOR ROCKS. Like, since you are liking contemp you totally NEED TO READ PART TIME INDIAN.

Okay, seriously, I am a tiny bit jealous. LOOK AT ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL BOOKS.

Also? Bookish friends are the best ever. How kind of someone to send you all those books :-)

  12. The only one I've read is The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. It's a good read but I personally like the Percy Jackson series more. I actually really love Egyptian mythology but some of the things in The Kane Chronicles are just a little too weird or out there for my liking. But it is a great book! It's been a while since I've read The Red Pyramid but I did just read the second book, The Throne of Fire and I did give it 4 out of 5 stars!

Happy reading :) I hope you like The Red Pyramid!

    1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Percy Jackson books but I haven't read any of the other Riordan books yet. I've heard similar things about the other series but honestly, Percy Jackson was such a great series I think it's hard to come close to something as great as that! I love mythology, though, so I'm excited to give it a go. ;)

  13. WOW! Just wow! You have some righteous friends Asheley! Cheers to your secret book pal, that is awesome! Lots of those books are on my TBR list, and a few I haven't yet heard of, but The Sherman Alexie book stands out for me, it's just such a lovely, quiet, somber, yet POWERFUL book. I think you'll love it! And I can't wait to hear your thoughts on The Red Pyramid. I have only read his Percy Jackson series and am always on the lookout for books my son and I can read together! What a great week for us booklovers!

I've heard so much about the Sherman Alexie book - maybe that should be the first from these stacks that I read. EVERYONE is sort of raving about it. Exciting week, yes!!
