Hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. She uses this time to tell about the books she receives each week either to review, from the library, or from a purchase. Kristi is kind enough to let us all in on her fun and here is my little piece of that!

  1. Ohhhhh my goodness. AWESOME books.

I do have a confession to make: in all my years (& despite having owned a copy since elementary school), I have never read The Giver. I had no idea a fourth book was coming out!

Another confession: I haven't read the Chaos Walking series. I know. I'll get around to it, I swear! I'm not sure if I can handle those books...I hear they're absolutely heartbreaking.

I've been interested in The Haunting of Maddy Clare. :) I hope you enjoy!

    1. The Giver is amazing, as is the rest of the series! I can't wait til the fourth book comes out. Also, Chaos Walking is AMAZING. They ARE heartbreaking, yes, but so worth the read.

I'm excited to read The Haunting of Maddy Clare!

    1. The first Giver books are so good. I'm so excited about the fourth book coming out in the Fall. And you KNOW how I feel about the Chaos Walking so I won't even get into it. I wish you'd go ahead and read it. I DID just spend six weeks on American Gods, for heavens sake.

  3. QUARTET! WHAT THE WHAT!

I also bought Finnikin of the Rock. It sounds fantabulous AND there is a sword on the cover. I mean COME ON.

    1. YES! Fourth book out in the FALL!!! Holla.

YES to Finnikin of the Rock. I started it, made it a little ways in, and decided that I needed to return the library book and just grab it while it is on sale for Kindle. SWORDS for the win. (Swords and Dragons get me every time. That's why I'm coming for Game of Thrones SOON.)

  4. Okay FIRST off I have to say that I really like the new blog look! It's very clean and crisp, and I like that the background looks like white corrugated cardboard. No really! In a good way!

And secondly, I WANT ALL THE BOOKS!! Crazy good haul this week. I'm thinking I need to reread The Giver since I've been hearing casting news, and I hope you LOVE Scorpio Races! The fact that you got both Ivan and Princess from April is awesome, she rocks my socks off. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Heidi! I like it too! I had help from Jacinda @ The Reading Housewives.

This WAS a good haul, no? I'd like to reread The Giver too. I was thinking about the casting, and it's growing on me. I'm nervous about a movie, but then again I always am.

I CAN'T WAIT to read Scorpio Races. It sounds like a book I'd love.

April is amazing, she sent those books to my kids because she knows they are avid readers and the IVAN book is by the Animorphs writer and they love that series. Awesome gal, that April.

    1. I couldn't resist, but I don't make much sense where Patrick Ness is concerned. I am the ultimate fangirl. I have the hardbacks and one is signed, so I don't want to take them out of the house when I want to reread. The kindle copies were perfect for me. ;)

  8. I just got The Summer My Life Began the other day for a blog tour. But I haven't read the Switched series yet:( Awesome haul!

  10. The Scorpio Races. THE SCORPIO RACES. I loved that book so, SO much! I enjoyed Maggie's Shiver books, but Scorpio Races is way better, in my opinion. I can't wait for you to read it!
Princess of the Wild Swans also sounds so wonderful. I love me some MG fairy tale retellings! I need to find a copy of this one to review at Bookalicious! But that one sounds awesome.
And I know you told me about the Chaos Walking books. I didn't buy them because my library has them and I wanted to get them from there instead. I PROMISE I'll read them! PROMISE.

  14. Hi Asheley! Hmm the only book I have read here is The Giver and it was back when I was in school, but I remember that it was really good! And I've heard really good things about The Scorpio Races although I myself haven't read any of Maggie Stiefvater's books yet-- I hope you enjoy all of these! :0

    1. Oh I love The Giver series so much. The books are companion books, not serial so much. But I'm hoping the fourth book will tie them all together nicely. They are incredible. I can't wait to read The Scorpio Races.

  15. Is that The Immortal Rules I spy? That's so awesome. I hope you enjoy reading it. I can't for for The Immortal Rules to come out!

I've read Transcend on the kindle back when it was self-published. :) It's okay but it's not that great. I've also read The Scorpio Races and loved it. The Scorpio Races was just such an awesome book!

Great IMM~ I hope you have a great reading week.

  17. Oh I loved Finnikin of the Rock. <3 I got scorpio races when it was 3.99.

I also got my gift from Tracey this week. Love love love all the details in the paper back. the little dolphins and palm trees. Too cute.

Just read The Summer my Life Began. I really liked it. It's cute. It's not the deep contemporary some people look for. It has some family problems and such, but for the most part, it was a feel good story. I was smiling in the end. Plus I love books about spending summers at the beach.

    1. I agree about the details inside the book - I LOVE when books have details on the inside like that. Goes a long way with me.

I'm excited to start The Summer My Life Began. I don't expect it to be a big life-changing contemporary, but a fun read, which it sounds like it'll be based on what you say.

      HOORAY for Finnikin. SWORDS forever.

I'm actually pretty excited for The Immortal Rules. Vamps aren't usually my thing, but Lauren @ 365 Days of Reading read an excerpt and it sounded really good :]

  20. Yay you bought the Chaos Walking trilogy too!!!! I BOUGHT IT AND WAS SO EXCITED. And yes, I have all the print copies. Even though...I STILL haven't made it through book two. Yet. Because of the whole "I don't want this series to end no no no no" thing. It's kind of a problem. Hubs wants to read a book with me, though, and I'm wondering if this would be good for both of us. Now that I have it on my Kindle app....HMMMM.

And I'm reading Finnikin next! I hope you are so proud! With my Twitter vote the other day it was split down the middle and I'm really digging The Things a Brother Knows (in the best of ways, which I can't even coherently describe), and I think Finnikin will be a completely different boy-read so I will definitely let you know when I read Finnikin.

And that Transcendence cover. Let me just say I was really surprised there was a YA book with a black boy on the cover that wasn't depicted as a hoodlum and immediately went to go see what it was about. It sounds really interesting!

Finally...On the Island. My close friend who begged me to buy Finnikin told me about On the Island and said she loved it, even though it sound kinda gross in the summary to her. She said she was so surprised about it -- and then I see you've rated it 5 stars too on Goodreads! Surely the two of you both can't steer me wrong! ;) I'm definitely going to purchase it. Thanks book-pushers. xoxo

    1. Okay, YOU NEED TO READ THE CHAOS WALKING BOOKS. Like, finish them. Having two copies of each books definitely means so, right? So hop to it, friend!

Finnikin! YES. I started it via library book and was like OH NO! I have to HAVE this one. So I bought it for my Kindle because I also have Froi of the Exiles on my Kindle, so now they match. :)

Oh the Transcendence cover is BEAUTIFUL in person, Capillya. It's gorgeous. There are so many details on it that I love from the detailing on the edge to the font. And yes, the black boy is depicted well. He's a looker, if you ask me...I can't wait to read it. It looks like a good one. Oh yeah, I think there's a cityscape in the background - one of my favorite background features on a YA book. I'm rambling about that cover...

On The Island...oh yes. It's a good book. I was nervous about reading it to begin with, I won't lie, but it is really, really good. I'd LOVE to hear what you think when you're done. Seriously.

LOVE when you stop by here. <3

  22. You have lots of amazing books this week! I can't even begin to describe which ones I want! Lois Lowry's The Giver will always be dear to my heart for it was the very first book discussed in my book club, when Gathering Books was just starting out. Myra has just recently reviewed The Knife of Never Letting Go, which you may visit here. Have you read A Monster Calls? That's another Patrick Ness book that you might want to check out! :)

    Here's My IMM. :)

  23. The Summer My Life Began is such a cute story! You'll want it to be summertime already! And is this all from one week? I can't see if you said that or not (I could be blind)...anyway, lots of good stuff!

Thanks for the pep comment on my Chaos Walking failure. :) Sorry for the lack of commenting :)

  24. Finninkin of the Rock, oh my gawd....I just finished Froi of the Exiles (oh my gawd, part deaux...) and can't wait for Quintana to release so I can order it from Fishpond! I've got to read The Scorpio Races, it's sitting on my floor with an approaching deu date on it from my library. Everyone loves the Chaos Walking series! I read the first book, and I did think it was amazing, but gah! It KILLED me in so many ways, I've been trying to talk myself into continuing the series ever since...

Pretty awesome mailbox there, Asheley, enjoy your reads:))
