In My Mailbox {12}

Hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. She uses this time to tell about the books she receives each week either to review, from the library, or from a purchase. Kristi is kind enough to let us all in on her fun and here is my little piece of that!

**********************************************

MIDDLE GRADE FOREVER.

Library

Eveybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)
by Mindy Kaling
Most of these are at the recommendation of
Adam (@HittingOnBooksby way of his blog

AND OF COURSE, my new obsession:

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicles #1)
by Patrick Rothfuss

Yes, I am listening to this via Audible.
And Yes I am loving it. So much, in fact.
And YES, I am the dork that occasionally likes
to read along with the narrator.

Gifted:

Fever (The Chemical Garden Trilogy #2)
by Lauren DeStefano
Alright, I kind of acted foolish when this one arrived.
But if you got it in your mailbox, you did too. Tell the truth....

Have any of you read any of these books?
Did you love them?
Did you hate them?

I want to know!
Leave me a comment and tell me all about it!

Weekly Recap:

    1. Allison, I'm OBSESSED with this book. Audio, print, whatever. It's ALMOST sad. And the trade paperback I just borrowed from the library to read along with my audio is so pretty. It went right up on my wishlist. I'm SO GLAD I'm reading it slow. I'll probably have it memorized before all is said and done.

Also can't wait to dive into Scorpio Races. Wolves aren't my thing, but I do love some Maggie. Can't wait to see what she does with horses.

  2. A Lot of people got Fever this week. I love that it has a beautiful cover. Scorpio Races just gets so many good reviews.

    1. The Fever cover IS really pretty. So pretty next to Wither. I very rarely get books the second they come out, so I was thrilled to get this one as a gift.

I CAN'T WAIT to read Scorpio Races. I was excited they had it at the library; I've been waiting forever.

    1. The Percy Jackson books are some of my favorites of all time...they solidified Rick Riordan as a favorite in this house. But I haven't read any of his other series. So I grabbed The Red Pyramid at the urging of my 8-year-old and she and I will probably bicker back and forth over who gets to read it first. ;)

I hope you love Fever as much as I did. It's SO GOOD.

    1. I'm very nervous about Anna! It's SO not my type of book. But Ashley @BasicallyAmazingBooks, Tara @Hobbitsies, and then of course Adam with his love jumps have all said it is really good -- and I'm trying hard to do the contemps thing. SO, Anna now sits in my stack of library books. We'll see! As much as everyone loves it, I'm feeling lots of pressure... haha.

    1. Best recommendation ever. You need an award with like a trophy or plaque or something. I hope something I have recommended to you lives up to 1/10000 of the greatness.

MIDDLE GRADE FOREVER. That is all. Makes my heart sing.

  6. Yay! You've got most of the books on my wishlist! But I've read The Red Pyramid and it was terrific! Would definitely be reading it again for review. And Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind is also my type of book to read but I'm still in doubt of it. I'll wait for your review of it.

And Fever? OMG! Many people are getting it! Your lucky your one of them! I haven't read Wither yet.

  7. Loved RED PYRAMID and ANNA! Still waiting to read ANTS and SCORPIO RACES myself! Enjoy everything!! MG Forever, yes! Two of my favorite books last year, LIESL AND PO and THE PRINCESS CURSE were both MG. I also just finished WINTERLING by Sarah Prineas this week and loved it. I'm hoping to read A YEAR WITHOUT AUTUMN soon! Yay MG! And....I am about 100 pages into THE NAME OF THE WIND and enjoying it so far!! Yay us!

(And yessssssssss, I SO freaked out when FEVER arrived--albeit LATE thanks to the holiday weekend. It came Thursday rt before dinner and I worked all of Friday and had a wedding yday, so I haven't been able to start! *cries*)

    1. Oh my, all of those extra middle grade books: I haven't read them, but I really want to. Lucky you!!

I'm so glad you're reading The Name of the Wind. In the printed version, I think you may be a tad bit further than me, but I have listened to each of the chapters twice because I love them so much. Since the audiobook is 27 HOURS LONG, I really can't keep doing that! So my thought was that if I could follow along with the printed book, I would stop listening twice. I just don't want to miss ANYTHING, ya know? It has the potential to be my favorite book ever, or at VERY high on my list.

I hope you LOVE Fever. It is so great. Wither was excellent but somehow DeStefano raised the bar so much with Fever. ;)

  8. Love the middle grade books! :) From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler is one of the best middle grade books of all time. :)

And your YA selections this week are rockin! Love Anna and the French Kiss. I just got The Scorpio Races on audiobook so I'm excited to listen to that.

  9. Middle Grade makes me SO happy. Ridiculously so. So I was thrilled to grab these two and my whole household (I have a 6 year old & 8 year old twins) will read them too. - My girls have already read Mrs. Basil!)

I'm ready to get started with some of these YA books. Everyone loves Anna and the French Kiss...we'll see! It's not my normal type of book but I'm gonna give it a chance. I'm super excited to start The Scorpio Races sometime really soon...

    1. Thanks Becca! I'm REALLY loving the Rothfuss book. It was a solid recommendation for fantasy and it is some of the best fantasy I've ever read. It is LONG, however, and I'm going through slow, so I think it'll take me a long time to get through it. But if you love fantasy, I highly recommend you get it too. Amazing isn't even enough of a word for it.

      Thanks for stopping by!

I hope you love that one, too.
